We left Bristol at 7:30 on Satuday morning and got into Uphill around 8:20. At this point I was leaning more towards sacking off a big run altogether but E was so supportive in encouraging me to do a big run so a huge thanks to him for all of his support! I decided on the West Mendip Way as it’s close to Bristol, it’s the distance of what would have been my ultra, and it’s incredibly scenic. I flirted with the idea of running 50k around Bristol for about half a second before realising there’s no chance I’d have the mental energy to do that if I was going to run an ultra, it had to be out in on proper trails in the countryside. Running the Cotswolds Way had been on the back of my mind as a fun running challenge to do but it seemed too big to do on such short notice, and honestly I wasn’t motivated enough to run that far. Even though it wasn’t an official ultra race I’m still so so so happy to have done my ultra and to have explored the Mendips more ?Īs I mentioned before in this post, my running motivation was pretty low after my race got cancelled and even though I wanted to do something to mark what would have been my ultra, I was struggling to think of something to do.

Overall I covered 32 miles in 7 hours 20 minutes with over 3600ft of ascent gain (annoyingly my watch died at 26.5 miles so I don’t have official stats for the ascent gain). Feels slightly surreal to write this but I finally did my ultra! On Saturday I ran the West Mendip Way, a 30 mile path from Uphill (south of Weston super Mare) to Wells through the Mendips, although I ended up doing 32 miles from getting lost a few times and adding in a detour up Beacon Batch, the highest point in the Mendips.
